I am requesting that the Conservation Committee grant this request under an RDA for a targeted application in my area. This would be an important precedent to set, providing homeowners with an accessible option for managing their lakefront in a way that would be mutually beneficial to them, their neighbors (humans and other creatures) and the lake -- and which will compliment other treatments. In a lake that had an herbicide treatment, benthic barriers would be a tool for extending the benefit of the treatment. But it would be most effective put into action by individual homeowners who are motivated to maintain the usability of their lakefront. So it is important that homeowners, that would fund and provide the labor for benthic barrier projects themselves, have this option without the NOI hurdle which would be too high for most.
